The Davis Farm to School program was established in 2000 and creates an educational and cultural environment that connects food choices with personal health, community, farms, and the land. It supports the Davis Joint Unified School District and private schools, with their goals to provide farm- and garden-based education, to increase farm fresh foods in school meals, and to reduce solid waste through recycling and composting programs.
- Maintain edible gardens at 15 schools sites in Davis, that serve over 5,000 students;
- Coordinate farm visit field trips for children to teach them where their food comes from;
- Support student nutrition services staff to provide fresh, local produce for school meals.
