Go Visit a Farm!

Yolo Farm to Fork offers cost sharing grants to Yolo County schools to support field trips to local organic farms.  Go Visit a Farm! grant program combines farm exploration, interactive discussion, and hands-on farm activities to create a unique experience which addresses school curriculum topics while also making important farm-to-table connections. We offer a variety of different farm visits that are designed for flexibility so as to fit with a variety of topics and to change with the seasons and daily rhythms of the farm they are visiting. Partnering farms include the University of California at Davis Student Farm and Ecological Garden, Fiery Ginger Farm, Root Cause Farm, and Fully Belly Farm.

While on the field trips, every student participates in a harvest or farming activity, and more importantly are encouraged to “eat” the produce that grown on the site. Student learning activities include compost, parts of a flower, growing your own vegetables, pruning and caring for a fruit tree, keeping chickens and other livestock, composting worms, and learning about beneficial insects and birds that keep the farm healthy and sustainable.
