Yolo Farm to Fork offers cost-sharing grants to Yolo County schools to support field trips to local organic farms. Go Visit a Farm! grant program combines farm exploration, interactive discussion, and hands-on farm activities to create a unique experience which addresses school curriculum topics while also making important farm-to-table connections.
We offer a variety of farm visits that are designed for flexibility so as to fit with a variety of topics and to change with the seasons and daily rhythms of the farm they are visiting. Since 2021, we have offered 13 free field trips, serving over 350 students to our community garden site located on the
La Tourangelle Oil Mill.
While on field trips, every student participates in a harvest or farming activity, and more importantly are encouraged to eat the produce that grown on the site. Student learning activities include compost, parts of a flower, growing your own vegetables, pruning and caring for a fruit tree, composting worms, and learning about beneficial insects and birds that keep the farm healthy and sustainable.
