Cost-sharing Field Trips:
Yolo Farm to Fork offers cost-sharing grants to Yolo County schools and organizations to support field trips to local organic farms. Go Visit a Farm! grant program combines farm exploration, interactive discussion, and hands-on farm activities to create a unique experience that addresses school curriculum topics while also making important seed-to-table connections.
Duration of the Field Trips:
Farm Field Trips are 4 hours long from 8:30 am to 12:30 am organized around 3 workshops. We offer a variety of activities that are designed for flexibility to fit with a variety of topics and to change with the seasons and daily rhythms of the farm they are visiting.
Activities:
During field trips, every student participates in:
- Planting and harvesting seasonal produce, with encouragement to smell and taste the fresh produce.
- On-site cooking, a highlight of the trip. After harvesting fresh produce, students get the chance to create delicious recipes using an outdoor portable kitchen.
- Discussions and workshops on regenerative agriculture, pollination, and learning about practices that contribute to farm health and sustainability.
